She Couldn’t Believe It When She Found Them Out In The Cold, Thoughtlessly Dumped And Left To Their Fate!
Having worked overtime to take care of a cat colony in a local park she is heartbroken to find three newborn kittens dumped and left to die.
Beyond exhausted, Laila D’Souza, from Rescue for Winston, still finds time to check on the cats she has helped TNR at a nearby park. Having worked so hard to pick up the pieces over the years for cats heartlessly dumped there, she can’t believe her eyes when she finds kittens dumped and left to their fate.
I’m so exhausted but I couldn’t allow myself to leave them.
After bringing them home, Laila found three very ill kittens, all three suffering from severe URI infections, dehydrated, and worst of all, starving. That being the case Laila spent the next few hours doing what she could to stabilize them.
“I spent the next few hours focusing on hydration and raising their glucose levels. I slowly introduced formula and at first they struggled to get used to the bottle but now they’re doing great so far.”
Dubbed the Halloween kittens, Laila gave her new charges the names Autumn, Binks, and Frankenstein.

Autumn, the largest of the three siblings, also had the most to say and appeared to be the ring leader of the trio.
The most stable as far as health went, she went on to put on 42 grams in the first 24 hours!
Meanwhile Binks is one of two male siblings who, like his sister, also had a lot to say. Not too well when he was first rescued, he went onto put on 30 grams after taking medication.
“Last but not least, everyone meet Frankenstein (short for Frankie). Frankie is the smallest kitten in the litter. He only weighed 138 grams when I first took him in, which is the size of a 0-1 week old kitten (they are about 3 weeks old),” Laila said.
“He was in the roughest shape and had a huge ball of puss on under his eyelid. I was really worried about him but thankfully he’s gained 42 grams this past 24 hours and he’s doing great so far.’
Six days after their arrival,l all three siblings were putting on weight, and their URI infections had all cleared up. Subsequently meal times became the most important time of day.
With Laila soon starting a fulltime job, it would be impossible for her to care for the tiny trio within her home. So a foster family was organized. Timing was perfect as by now all three were on solid food!
Things got off to a good start, all three were given a bath soon after arrival, quickly settling into their new home and taking advantage of the new toys.
A new favourite being the kitten scratcher.
However, things took a turn for the worst a week in their new home when Frankie developed a severe eye infection! Then all three kittens developed diarrhea!
Frankie’s eye infection soon began to clear with eye drops, and all three tiny tummies were soon on the mend after two rounds of dewormer.
By the time New year rolled round the change in all three siblings was amazing to see.
After the bought of diarrhea there was a ring worm pandemic which swept through the fosteer home. But apart from that, all three went from strength to strength.
“I can’t believe how much they’ve grown so far.”
“Here’s a photo of Luna (so exciting!!!) fitting in with the Halloween babies. The ringworm is getting better and all the kittens are growing up so fast.”
Thanks to Laila’s huge heart and complete dedication their lives were saved and the best for this cute trio is yet to come.
