A tiny tabby kitten is found with a serious leg injury and brought into Warwick Veterinary Hospital for immediate treatment. Despite her size, weighing only 200 grams, she was fighting with all her might for her right to live.
As her leg was so badly infected, veterinary surgeons decided it had to be removed. Too small to undergo surgery she needed to gain some weight. This was something she thankfully managed to do in just one day due to a very healthy appetite. This being the case, she was immediately prepped for surgery.
Surgery was performed with more than a little trepidation, as to date she is the smallest kitten to ever undergo such major surgery in this clinic.
“This kitten, named Peggy, is the epitome of strength, we are so blown away by her bravery,” said veterinary nurse, Kate Hayes.
Wanting to give Peggy the best chance of survival, Kate took the little fighter home where she met Kate’s dog, Moon.
Moon, an eight-year-old dog, had been helping Kate foster struggling kittens for years. Seeming to sense Peggy’s struggle to live, he was right there by her side, ready to offer his support.
“He is the most kind-hearted dog I have ever known. He has helped over 200 animals that have come through our house. He gave them love, comfort, and cuddles while I made them strong and got them ready to go onto their new homes,” said Kate.
