Risking His Own Life, He Inched His Way Into The Tiny Space, Hoping To Reach Them!

Risking his own life he crawls under the sidewalk to rescue six kittens hiding in a highly unstable hole!

Catsnip Etc, a TNR group in Elkhart, Indiana, was contacted recently about a litter of kittens trapped in a highly unstable hole under a sidewalk. The group had to move quickly, as the hole the kittens were in was not safe. Paige, Helen, and Carl, volunteers with Catsnip Etc, arrived with all sorts of tools in the hopes of bringing the kittens out alive.

The entrance to the hole was very small, so the team had to widen the opening to see the litter. They ended up counting six tiny kittens, crouched in the back, completely out of arms reach. At first, they tried various techniques to encourage the babies out, but nothing seemed to work.

At this point, Carl stepped forward and volunteered to shimmy under the sidewalk to make an attempt at reaching the kittens.

Lying on his back he managed to inch his way under the sidewalk with barely enough room to move. Finally, he was within reach, and one by one he carefully handed the tiny lifeforms back to Paige and Helen.

After handing over the last kitten, Carl shimmied his way back out. Relieved both he and the kittens were OK after such a difficult rescue.

They even managed to trap mom by using a humane trap and bring her back to the rescue too.

“It was a long couple of hours, but we had six terrified babies going to a foster home and a feral mom that will find a safe barn home.”

Understandably, the sextuplets were terrified in these new surroundings. However, once they found they had a comfortable nest and an endless supply of food, they quickly began to warm up to the humans.

Before long they got a bath and were deflead, finally enjoying their first round of snuggles.

“They are finally getting braver around people,” Catsnip Etc said.

They got their first bath to wash away all the dirt that was on them. While they weren’t too excited about the bath, they are getting better about the snuggles.”

Meanwhile, the kitten’s mom was both spayed and vaccinated.

When she has recovered she will move to a barn. There she will have all the food and shelter she could ever want. Best of all, she will be cared for for the rest of her life.

The kittens though still need time to grow and find their paws.

Each day brings new milestones which they are overcoming as they become more confident cats, learning while they play.
