Emilie, an animal rescuer and foster carer from Milwaukee, WI, took in a litter of premature kittens when their feral cat mom abandoned them. Despite her efforts, only one kitten survived, clinging to life with all his might.
Emilie dedicated herself to providing round-the-clock intensive care, ensuring the little one had nourishment and warmth in a cozy incubator.
Despite his small size, the kitten surprised Emilie with his loud meows every time she approached.
“Every time I opened the incubator, there he was screaming for food,” said Emilie.

“After five days of meticulous care, the kitten gained enough strength to latch onto a bottle, earning the name Fievel after a character from “An American Tail.”
Fievel’s silver grey coat, a result of a fever coat, with pinkish white mittens on all four paws.
“The mom likely had a fever or was extremely stressed during her pregnancy. Fever coats do go away leaving just the darker coloring.”
Despite being a bit behind in development, Fievel defied the odds and reached many milestones.
As he grew, he became a big personality with a fearless attitude, eager to explore and play with other foster kittens.
Persephone, a foster cat, took Fievel under her wing, caring for him as her own.
“I think she knew he was a bit more fragile than the others,” Emilie shared.
As Fievel matured into a young cat, his tuxedo markings became increasingly striking.
By the age of four months, the once silver-grey kitten had undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a stunning black tuxedo cat adorned with four pristine white socks and his distinctive mustache marking.
“I’m still in shock at how different he looks now. He’s really growing into the most dapper of gentleman.”
“A couple weeks ago, he was supposed to go to my brother (for adoption), but my brother’s cat was just too much for him.”
“Seeing how much he loves my fosters, and how much he helps them sealed the deal,” said Emilie.
“Fievel was adopted by me. Sometimes, you just can’t let them go, and he’ll be the best ‘big brother’ to so many orphaned kittens. I’m so grateful he came into my life, and that he’s staying with me for good.”
