Archie, the male cat, formed a strong bond with his two offspring, Jughead and Josie, so much so that he exhibited visible distress when separated from them by rescuers.
Consequently, two of the six kittens were allowed to stay with him. This nurturing dad astonished his foster mom, taking on the roles of bathing and caring for the kittens, a role mostly typically reserved for mother cats.
Foster mom Emily Gammon of Auntie Em’s Foster Kittens shared her surprise, stating, “I have never seen a male cat take such loving and affectionate care of babies! I thought I was going to have to give daily butt baths… until I came in, and he had cleaned all six of them and was snuggled up with them all.
We had planned on sending the six kittens to their new foster this week, but when separated from them, Archie cried the most mournful cry I have ever heard. So we were able to keep him with two of the babies, and he is a proud daddy!”
In honor of Father’s Day, a tribute was dedicated to Archie by the rescuers, recognizing him as a remarkable cat dad.
Following quarantine, Archie was elated to enter the foster room, a sentiment captured in a heartwarming video showing the family playfully interacting.
As time passed, Jughead and Josie began to exhibit signs of growing up quickly, displaying a level of maturity that hinted at their impending journey to their forever homes. While the kittens faced the challenges of ringworm, they were on the path to recovery through treatment.
These kittens, along with their devoted dad Archie, became widely known and garnered attention on national news. While currently under the care of Cuddle Buddies Rescue in Katy, Texas, it’s expected that they will find loving homes before long.
The remarkable bond between this family of orange cats has been noted, with both babies closely resembling their attentive father in appearance and temperament.
