So Tiny, Weighing Only 79 Grams, Without Mom, Sadly There Was Little Chance Of Survival!

Abandoned at only one day old, her umbilical cord still attached her life had got off to the worst possible start!

Only one day old she is found on her own, her umbilical cord still wet, meaning she could be no more than one day old!

At only 79 grams, this little girl had luck on her side, because she soon found herself on her way to her new foster home, run by Melinda Blain of Bottle Baby Fosters, Pheonix, Arizona. A great outcome after such a scary start to life.

She had one thing going in her favor though, despite her age and small size she had a great appetite. Even after having been fed human breast milk!

“She was fed human breast milk by the finder, so I’m expecting to see some GI upset. Note: neonatal kittens should never be fed human breast milk, human baby formula, or cow’s milk. Goat’s milk will work in a pinch,” Melinda said.

As she was born on the fourth of July Melinda rather appropriately gave her the name Spangle.

Though Spangle couldn’t see or hear yet she could definitely feel. And that meant she felt loved.

At around eight days old tiny ‘peepers’ were beginning to appear making for some comical faces for such a tiny kitten. Her expressions ranged from sleep to goofy and then very demanding.

This last face though was usually due to not getting enough cuddles.

At two weeks old her GI upset resurfaced so it was right back to meds.
