He had been feeding his cats out in his yard when a stray cat showed up looking for food. Taking one look at his face brought tears to his eyes!
He didn’t know how old he as or where he came from, this feral cat had showed up out of nowhere? He had shown up about three months ago looking for a meal when he fed his own cats. So the kind-hearted man had started feeding him too.
Waiting in the bushes until the other cats had finished, Tuffy, has he named him, would come over to eat. This time though Tuffy didn’t look so good, one look at his face told him that. The man knew he needed help right away!
Being semi-feral Tuffy was no easy cat to catch, so the man had to lure the evasive feline into a cat carrier. Once trapped he contacted Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association, VOKRA, and Tuffy was brought in for a check-up.
Tuffy had a severe sinus infection which had blocked his ears, nose and his eyes. Reluctant be to be held, once he realized the volunteers were trying to help him he relented, allowing them to clean his eyes and ears.
He was given medication, including an antibiotic cream for his eyes. Suffering from fleas and badly matted fur on arrival, the matted fur was shaved off. Tuffy said goodbye to his fleas and intense itching, now he was feeling a lot better.
After a week at the shelter, he was starting to feel stronger. He had his face washed every day with a warm compress, and the ointment was applied to his eyes, he even allowed his newfound friends to pat his back!
He continued receiving around the clock care and attention to help in his fight for survival.
