Blind, He had Been Visiting On His Own For Years, Until One Day He Turns Up With Two Stray Feline Bodyguards!

He would come to her backyard quite frequently, it wasn’t long till she began to notice some quite odd behavior!?

It was back in 2009 when an Illinois woman began to care for a raccoon that frequented her backyard. Her home was boarded by a heavily wooded area, so it was fairly easy for him to come and go as he pleased. It wasn’t long, however, before Eryn noticed her new friend displaying some quite odd behavior. Especially the day he returned with not one, but two bodyguards!

Not only would the raccoon venture out during the daytime, but he could also be seen bumping into things, and getting easily spooked by everyday, normal noises. Then she saw what could be causing this unusual behavior, his eyes would glow bright green during the day!

“There is something wrong with his tapetum lucidum. His eyes shine bright green during the day. He is at least partially blind. He walks into things. He is afraid of the wind, high grass, birds, and snow,” Eryn explains.

After realizing he was at the very least partially blind, Eryn began to leave out small meals on the back porch for her visitor. He would usually turn up between the hours of 6.00 am to 9.00 am, often returning for seconds or even thirds! With his bottom lip missing she would feed him soft noodles soaked in cream of chicken soup.

Also sometimes dishing out hot dogs, or ham and pork. Quite discerning about what he would eat, he would turn up his nose at canned cat/dog food.

Eryn was also was quite firm about pointing out her raccoon doesn’t have rabies or distemper. Going on to explain raccoons quite often venture forth during daylight hours in early summer, especially after giving birth. Also if he had had either disease he would have died a long time ago.

For the next five years, the blind raccoon made his almost daily visits to Eryn’s porch for his meals. Then one day, quite out of the blue something strange happened when he made another visit. This time he was not alone, bringing with him two unusual companions.
