Furless From A Rare Condition, All She Needs, All She Wants Is Another Chance At Life!
Soon her fur began to grow in.
“Ehlers Danlos syndrome is a rare genetic disorder of connective tissues (I.e collagen). It can affect people and animals, though manifestations can vary greatly between species and individuals. So far for Appa, her symptoms seem milder than Porg’s, but she does have thin, elastic and fragile skin.,” Elise added.
“Moms told me today I am going to be the gift that keeps on giving, isn’t that sweet?!? Prior to this, they had said something about me having ringworm and needing to start some meds and vacuum the entire house but whatever,” said Appa via Elise.
As the months went by, Appa began to heal. Old fur fell out and new fur began to grow in. She wore a sock and a bandana to prevent scratching in sensitive areas.
Now that she was healing, Appa was feeling much better. Always pretty easygoing, she wasnow much more cheerful, switching her purr engine from low gear into high gear and demanding more cuddles.
“She is very intelligent and likes getting into mischief,” Elise shared.
She quickly learned what to do when to go about getting what she wanted.
“Look into my eyes… you will give me extra snacks…,” said Appa via Elise.
If she sees something she thinks looks pretty tasty she will stand on her hind legs and beg for it.
No from her Moms, is not an acceptable response.
“Glad we are raising such a strong, breakfast lovin’ girl,” Elise said.
“When she is feeling cuddly, she also loves belly and foot rubs.”
Hanging with her canine buddy Mowgli is also another favorite pastime.
Appa has grabbed her second chance at life with both paws and is that life to the fullest.

Ehlers-Danlos is more prevalent in cats than you think it is. Did you ever see a cat twist her head all the way around? or lift a leg up to her have for grooming? Just as 80% of people with EDS go undiagnosed, so do cats.
