Kitten Found In A Trash Can Covered In Spray Foam

Early last month a garbage collector was emptying a trash can when he found a kitten hanging by its legs covered in spray foam.

They were emptying trash on SW Minter Bridge Road, Washington County not too far from Hillsboro.

When workers on the truck using a hydraulic arm to empty the trash were puzzled when they noticed the can was not emptying properly? When one of them looked into the can he noticed the kitten. What was concerning was it was similar to this wounded kitten who was dumped in a park trash can.

It was hanging from its hind legs, upside down, covered in spray foam. He only realized it was still alive when it whined. He then made sure it was taken to Hillsboro Garbage Disposal Facility where it was cleaned up, all the foam was removed in the process.

Staff then took the kitten to a local vet for assessment. Luckily no permanent harm was done and the kitten is now recovering.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brian van Kleef said cats don’t live inside any of the homes in the area, but said the residents of one of the homes were caring for two feral cats, both of which have litters of kittens. He said they are not suspects, and they have said they want the cat back. The sheriff’s office plans to return the cat to them when the investigation is complete.

“If they hadn’t wanted it back, there’s already a long list of people who wanted to adopt it,” he said.

Van Kleef said that because the garbage can was in an area where there are multiple homes and outbuildings, it’s hard to identify who could have done this.

“It definitely seems like it was done intentionally, so we want to investigate it as an act of animal cruelty,” he said.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone who has any tips about the incident to call them at 503-846-2700.
