Four Reasons Your Cat Wants To Sit On Your Knee!

Some cats will not have a bar of sitting on their owner’s knees, while some cats seem to want to do nothing else.

Of course, some breeds are more inclined to do so than others, however, there are other factors that come into a cat’s decision-making on this subject, so what are they?

Here are five reasons your cat might decide to sit on your knee:

1. Building A Bond With You

There are times when your cat wants to maintain its bond with you. From past experience, it might know that you pet it in a particular way it likes, or scratch it under its chin. If you see your cat kneading you whilst you are doing these things you know you have hit the feline jackpot. This is a sure sign of a very happy comfortable cat. Also, he or she is leaving their scent on you, you are, therefore, theirs.

2. Just for Comfort

Go and put on some uncomfortable clothes, go sit in your favorite chair and see if your cat comes and sits on your knee. If he or she does, then see how long they sit there for? I bet if your cat sits on your knee at all, it will not be for as long as it normally would if you were wearing comfortable clothes. So if spending more time with your cat is on your to-do list, wear more comfortable clothes.

3. Safety

Feeling safe is important for animals of higher intelligence and cats certainly fall into that category. So it should come as no surprise that cats tend to sit on the knees of people they feel safe with. So if your cat regularly sits on your knee, congratulations, they feel safe with you, which means you have earned their trust. It is interesting to note that cats are less likely to sit on the knees of people who work with a lot of other animals. Cats have an acute sense of smell and know who you have been spending your day with.

4. Fondness

Finally, it should be noted that cats can be pretty fond of their cat owners, meaning that sitting on their laps is a way for the cats to spend more time with them. This can be seen in how cats aren’t limited to sitting on their cat owners’ laps but will also sit on things that have spent enough time in their cat owners’ presence to smell like them. Moreover, it should be mentioned that cats are perfectly capable of telling when their cat owners aren’t paying attention to them, which is why they will sometimes deliberately get in the way of whatever it is that their cat owners are doing in order to get more of their attention for themselves.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, a cat’s willingness to sit in their cat owner’s lap is something that can see incredible variation. Some cats will readily do so, whereas other cats are much more reluctant. However, there is one thing that cat owners need to remember, which is that their cats shouldn’t be forced but should instead be treated in a manner that will make them more comfortable with the prospect of being so close to their favorite humans.
