Abandoned And Alone, He Was Found Trying To Survive Amongst A Colony Of Feral Cats!

After spotting him at a local cat colony it was his appearance and his sweet nature, that gave him away. They knew something had to be done to save this special cat before it was too late.

Cat man Chris Poole was at a local cat colony he had been taking care of for years alongside a dedicated team of caregivers. The colony lived near a building site where many man-made dangers lay, as well a busy intersection and a field frequented by hunting coyotes. Despite these dangers, Chris and his team had kept the colony well-fed and even managed to adopt out some of its members.

One day he received a call from one of the colony’s cares Christine who had seen a new face. He was a very big Siamese boy who exhibited absolutely no fear of her whatsoever. This being the case it was clear he had either been abandoned or escaped from his home. He had walked right on up to her asking for attention and food.

He was ravenous and would eat the food she put down immediately. She also tried catnip with him and he loved that too, sealing their bond.

The next morning Christine was able to get the tender boy into a cat carrier taking his first steps on a journey into a journey to a new life.

Cat man Chris picked him up and got him settled into his temporary home where he could recover.

As soon as he was placed inside, a pair of huge hear shaped paws reached through the bars begging for more attention.

And so it was he got his new name, Valentino.

Valentino would only spend a few days with Chris while trips were taken to the vet and arrangements were made for a foster family where the new arrival could be better taken care of.

The great news was he tested negative for FIV/FeLV, though he did have a heart murmur. There was no microchip found and the vet thought he was around one year old.

The Runaways Animal Rescue in Pasco, Florida we’re happy to step in and help the unique and loving cat. They know that when a feline with “desirable traits” is rescued, it’s so very important they find a home that will not exploit their genetic makeup.

And loving Valentino is sporting 6 toes on each paw, front and back!

So Valentino was off to his temporary home with foster mom Sheridan.

Although “the goal is goodbye” when fostering. Sheridan’s family came very close to “foster failing” him, and considered adopting him themselves. To be honest, so did the Cat Man Chris clan!

But Valentino’s heart would lead him in another direction. And everyone involved knows it’s exactly where his heart(s) can now become whole.

Because look at the happiness on the faces of his new family.

Not only did his heart need a hand to hold it, but the family had also just begun healing after the loss of their beloved cat. Life after the loss, a new baby and a new home had finally settled and they knew Valentino was the key to healing their broken hearts.

He is now known as Hemingway, the family’s nod to the famous extra-toed Key West cats of the writer Ernest Hemingway. The love his new humans have for the tropical islands is nothing compared to their new love for him.

Congrats to Valentino/Hemingway and his new family! Thank you to the Runaways Animal Rescue for fostering and giving him the chance to wear his heart on his….sleeves?
